A Prepaid Account allows the family or friend of an inmate to purchase prepaid phone services for receiving phone calls to a specifically designate telephone number (i.e. home, cellphone, etc.). The inmate can only make calls to that designated telephone number. The Prepaid Account is different from a Debit Telephone Account. With a Debit Telephone Account, the inmate can make calls to any telephone numbers which are not restricted by the facility. However, with a Prepaid Account, the inmate can only make calls to the specific telephone number designated by the account holder.
Who controls the Prepaid Account?
The account holder who sets up the account and purchases the prepaid phone services. During account setup, you will designate the phone number (i.e. home, cellphone, etc.) to be designated to your Prepaid Account. Your account is secured by a user name and secret PIN you select during account setup, preventing account access by anyone else. Your purchased prepaid phone services will allow you to accept calls from the inmate to the designated phone number. The inmate cannot use these prepaid phone services to make calls to other phone numbers.
Who can the inmate call with a Prepaid Account?
Only the telephone number you designate for the Prepaid Account. If you want to allow the inmate to call any facility approved telephone numbers they desire, please consider using our Debit Telephone Account service option. With a Debit Telephone Account, the inmate can make calls to any phone numbers which are not restricted by the facility.
I can’t receive collect calls on my phone. Will I be able to accept calls from a Prepaid Account?
Yes. There are many reasons why a telephone may be unable to receive collect calls. Cell phone carriers, for example, do not typically allow their customers to receive collect calls on their cell phones. You may also have problems with collect calling if you use a VoIP/internet-based phone (service provided through your cable company or a VoIP provider like Vonage), if your phone is a business phone, or if you have a high unpaid balance on your telephone account. A Prepaid Account will allow you to receive calls from an inmate to whatever phone number (i.e. home, cellphone, etc.) you designate, as long as that phone number is not restricted by the facility. A Debit Telephone Account will allow the inmate to call any facility approved phone numbers they desire.
